Senior Flags: Spencer 8 - 7 Hillcroft

Spencer lifted their 11th Senior Flags title after an epic 8-7 victory over Hillcroft.

Hillcroft were looking to lift their first Senior trophy at their sixth attempt and came all so close with a big third quarter shut-out that saw them pull to within a goal of Spencer at 6-5. An equally tight final 15 minutes saw Hillcroft level the game at 7-7 thanks to Thom Gilbrook. With just under 1 minute remaining, Hillcroft had possession and called a timeout. They attacked the Spencer goal but turned over the ball with less than 30 seconds remaining. Spencer called their final timeout. Was this heading for overtime? No way said Spencer's Ben Buchanan who was the man in the right spot as a shot bounced off the Hillcroft goalie onto the crease where Buchanan was first to react, to pop the ball into the back of the net with 6 seconds remaining. Hillcroft won the face-off restart, called their final timeout but only had 1 second left in the game. A shot from the halfway line did not threaten the goal and Spencer celebrated the win.
